The Koneprusy caves are one of the most favorite tourist areas in the Czech Republic and belong to the country’s oldest nature reserves. They are the largest cave system discovered in Bohemia so far so it will be really interesting to visit this place.
They originated in Devonian limestones up to 400 million years old. They are developed in three height levels with more than 70 m denivation. Their total length exceeds 2 km, the accessible route is about 620 m long and sightseeing tour lasts one hour.
The top level housed in the 15th century a secret workshop of money forgers. The cave can boast of unique opal-bearing decorations, as well as numerous paleonthological exavations, documenting the history of earth Nature of the past 1,5 milion years.
After visiting the caves we will do a hike which will cover 7 km and provide the best overview of Czech Karst region. There is a choice to do a longer hike which is 11 km, but that will up to you. On the hike we will pass Tetin, one of the oldest villages in the Czech Republic. The place was already inhabited during the paleolithic period. Archaeologists found that the beginnings of the village date back to the 10th century, when local gord was founded by dukes from the Premyslid dynasty.
The hike takes maximum of 3 hours to complete. Great choice for an active day.
Next stop is lunch, of course! We will treat you with a main course and a drink – included in your trip – at a traditional restaurant, with time to enjoy the best local beers and micro-brews.
